Proso millet (Panicum miliaceum) is one of many crop species classified as millets. Proso millet is thought to be one of the earliest cultivated grains, likely preceding wheat. Proso millet has also been called common millet, hog millet, broom corn, yellow hog, hershey and white millet. Proso millet is a warm-season grass capable of producing seed in 60 to 100 days after planting. Because of its relatively short growing season, it has a low moisture requirement and is capable of producing food or feed where other grain crops would fail.
